Fullboar boats Australia talks about fiberglass and does some destructive testing with fiberglass and aluminum to see which one is better for the application and ease of repair. Also has some foam core vacuum infusion at the end.
I uploaded this because I get allot of grief from people(not youtubers) saying fiberglass is weak and brittle. The video is a an extract from a info DVD my supplier gave to me, Fiberglass International.
What kind of insulation should be used for a crawlspace? Cellulose, open cell spray foam, closed cell foam, fiberglass? Is ventilation of a crawlspace a good idea? Fiberglass is rarely suitable for insulation purposes in a crawlspace. It’s actual insulation value is questionable. This video shows fiberglass installed the wrong way! The vapor barrier should face the warm heated space. Open cell foam? We don’t recommend usage of open cell foam, because it is only an “air barrier” or insulator, but it offers no vapor barrier. Vapor is air and water mixed together creating smaller molecules able to penetrate open cell foam. Once the vapor made it in to the foam it will condensate (turns into water). Wet foam doesn’t insulate and may rot wood over time. More expensive closed foam doesn’t absorb any vapor or moisture from a crawlspace. You can submerge closed cell foam over long periods and it will not absorb water. It has a much higher insulation value (R-6.5 per inch), compared to open cell foam (R-3.5 per inch). Cellulose? Depends on the moisture level in that area and how difficult it will be to install a membrane holding dense packed cellulose in place. It is better to initially invest more for closed cell spray foam and have a long term, trouble free measure in place with a higher insulation value.
