This video demonstrates how to apply a Danish Oil finish to a piece of wood. Danish Oil is a finish that dries within the surface of the wood rather than on top of it. It is a great way to achieve a natural looking finish while adding a little colour and accenting the grain of the wood to some degree.
Danish Oil is one of the easiest finishes to apply. It can simply be rubbed into the surface of your item and then left to dry. It is also possible to use Danish Oil as part of a grain filling technique. In order to accomplish that, you would lightly sand your material while the oil is still wet to create a form of past that acts as a filler.
Watco Danish Oil, which is owned by Rustoleum, comes in many different tints. These include: black walnut, dark walnut, medium walnut, light walnut, natural, golden oak, cherry, red mahogany, and fruitwood.
Danish oil can be re-coated after a short period of time, and can be applied using a few different methods. My favourites are the rub on finishes done with either a rag or with steel wool, but there are other options as well such as foam brushing, brushing, and spraying.
Danish Oil is generally applied directly to raw wood, but can also be applied over top of some sealers such as shellac using steel wool. It can be used as a colorant in these instances.
I hope that you found this video helpful, or at least entertaining.
Thanks for watching.
